Autotranslate AI (“the extension”) is a browser extension that automatically translates web page content into your preferred language. This policy explains exactly what data the extension handles, where it goes, and what we do — and don’t — retain.

Summary, in one sentence

The extension sends page text to public translation services so it can return a translation; we do not collect, store, log, sell, or share any personal data on our own servers — because we don’t operate any servers.

What the extension accesses

1. Visible text on pages you view. When you open a page, the extension extracts readable text (ignoring scripts, styles, inputs, code blocks, and anything marked translate="no") so it can be translated.
2. Your settings. Your preferred target language, list of languages to skip, list of sites to skip, and on/off state. Stored in your browser via chrome.storage.sync, which syncs across your signed-in browser instances. Settings never leave your browser’s sync channel.
3. The page’s detected language. Determined locally via chrome.i18n.detectLanguage or inferred from the translation response. Stored only in memory for the active tab.

What the extension sends to third parties

To produce translations, the extension sends the extracted page text to one of the following services:

• Google Translate’s public translation endpoint (translate.googleapis.com). This is the same endpoint used by Chromium’s built-in translate feature. See Google’s privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
• MyMemory Translation API (api.mymemory.translated.net), used only as a fallback when Google is unavailable. See MyMemory’s privacy policy: https://mymemory.translated.net/doc/privacy.php

Only the text to be translated, the source language, and the target language are transmitted. No user identifiers, account data, browsing history, cookies, or authentication tokens are sent by the extension.

What the extension does NOT do

• No tracking. No analytics, telemetry, advertising SDKs, or fingerprinting.
• No accounts. The extension has no login, no user database, no server under our control.
• No selling of data. We do not collect data, so there is nothing to sell.
• No reading of inputs, passwords, or form fields. The extension ignores <input>, <textarea>, and contenteditable regions.
• No retention. Translated text is cached in your browser’s memory only for performance and is cleared when the extension is reloaded or via the “Clear cache” button.

Data retention

• On your device: settings persist until you remove them or uninstall the extension. In-memory translation cache persists until the browser restarts or you clear it.
• On our servers: we have no servers. We do not receive, store, or process your data.
• On third-party servers (Google, MyMemory): governed by their respective privacy policies, linked above.

Your choices

• Stop all translation: toggle “Always auto-translate pages” off in the popup, or uninstall the extension.
• Exclude a language: click “Never translate [language]” in the popup.
• Exclude a site: click “Don’t translate this site” in the popup.
• Clear local cache: click “Clear translation cache” in the popup.

Children’s privacy

The extension is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at the same URL as this document, with a new effective date.
